BigBand Networks to Unveil Switched Digital Video Innovations at The Cable Show '08, Booth #2013
Demonstrations and co-authored white papers underline potential for expanded high definition program lineups and greater personalization of video services

REDWOOD CITY, Calif., May 7, 2008—BigBand Networks, Inc. (NASDAQ: BBND) today announced that it will demonstrate new switched digital video innovations at the National Cable & Telecommunications Association’s Cable Show ’08, May 18-20, 2003, Booth #2013.
These capabilities are intended to allow cable operators to leverage their switched digital video infrastructures to deliver richer choices of high definition and standard definition programming, to both TVs and PCs. Advanced advertising functionality that matches advertisements to the interests of individual subscribers will also be shown. BigBand demonstrations will include:
• QualityShaping™ VBR—a switched digital video enhancement that can provide up to fifty percent more channel capacity compared to today's technology. This additional capacity helps provide richer choices of high definition and standard definition programming.
• IPTV over SDV—a new approach that leverages switched digital video network equipment and management systems for more economical delivery of video to televisions and PCs over DOCSIS® networks.
• Advanced Advertising—highlights the ability of switched unicast, a variation of switched digital video, to forward specific advertisements, along with embedded customized promotional messages,.to viewers based on their individual interests.
• Switched Video Analysis— BigBand’s powerful SDV analysis application helps operators improve bandwidth efficiency, capacity planning, monitoring and troubleshooting capabilities.
In addition to its technology demonstrations, BigBand Networks will also present two co-authored white papers at the NCTA Technical Paper™ conference in the New Orleans Convention Center on Sunday, May 18th and Monday, May 19th.
On Sunday, May 18th beginning at 4:15 PM (Room 211), BigBand’s chief architect Doug Jones will present a co-authored white paper with Comcast Cable, entitled "Infrastructure Capabilities Supporting Cable’s National Platform”. This presentation will propose a technical architecture and examine key functionality for interactivity within ETV (Enhanced Television) and OpenCable™ platform environments.
On Monday, May 19th beginning at 1:45 PM (Room 211), Steve Riedl, principal architect at Time Warner Cable, and BigBand Networks will present the white paper, "Implementing Addressable Advertising in Linear Networks", which describes a technology framework and architecture for converged resource management and addressable advertising.
